Product Description
SPC PV is a type 1+2 lightning arrester as per the EN 61643-1, which during surge effects can protect positive and negative busbars of photovoltaic systems. As per IEC 1312-1and EN 62305, SPC PV-800 DS Lightning Arrester can used in the Lightning Protection Zones Concept at the LPZ 0-1 boundaries. Varistor sectors connected between L+, L- and PE terminals equip fitted internal disconnectors which activate when varistors fail or overheat. Partly mechanical and partly remote monitoring are used to indicate the failure of the disconnectors.
Remote monitor terminals functioning
Terminations 2-3 are open and 1-2 are connected to closed contacts when SPC PV-800 DS Lightning Arrester operates correctly. One can find out when its not working properly or its damaged due to thermal overloading, when terminations 2-3 are closed and terminations 1-2 are open.

FAQs of SPC PV-800 DS Lightning Arresters:
Q: How is the SPC PV-800 DS Lightning Arrester installed?
A: The SPC PV-800 DS is designed for easy installation on a standard DIN rail using screw terminals, accommodating wires up to 25 mm. The pluggable module format allows for simple replacement without dismantling the entire unit, streamlining both initial setup and ongoing maintenance.
Q: What benefits does the visual fault indication window provide?
A: The visual fault indication window on the SPC PV-800 DS enables quick detection of arrester status. If a fault occurs, users can instantly identify it visually, ensuring timely replacement or service without disrupting the overall system operation.
Q: When should the pluggable module be replaced?
A: The pluggable module should be replaced if the visual fault indication window displays a fault, or after a significant surge event. This ensures the lightning arrester continues to offer optimal protection for photovoltaic systems and prolongs the devices service life.
Q: Where is the SPC PV-800 DS most effectively used?
A: This lightning arrester is purpose-built for indoor photovoltaic (solar power) installations, providing reliable Type 2 (Class II) surge protection in both single and three-phase systems. Its robust build and IP20 rating make it ideal for solar power system combiner boxes, inverters, and distribution panels located indoors.
Q: What process does the SPC PV-800 DS use to protect equipment?
A: The device rapidly diverts dangerous surge currents, up to 40 kA, from lightning or electrical faults, to earth ground within 25 nanoseconds. This protects sensitive downstream equipment from being damaged by overvoltage events.
Q: How does the device ensure long-term reliability and safety?
A: With a flame-retardant high-grade polycarbonate enclosure, high vibration resistance, overheating protection, and a rated service life exceeding 10 years, the SPC PV-800 DS maintains consistent performance and helps meet long-term protection requirements within indoor environments.
