Product Description
LPI Lightning Strike Recorder (LSR1) is a counter of lightning strike that can be mounted anywhere together with down conductor route. It can accurately record the count of strikes, which are captured and conveyed down conductor. Discharge counter add a count as it discovers the energy dissipated by the down counter when the lightning rod gets an impact of the lightning strike. It operates by sensing current with the help of an inductive pick up loop. The current transformer (CT) detects the voltage impulse followed by triggering the pulse counter, which turns the counter for registering the lightning event. No internal or external power supply is required for the equipment operation; this electrical mechanical equipment makes use of the power of the induced current dissipated through the down conductor.

The device is suitable for both direct and indirect lightning protection systems, providing peace of mind through secure and dependable monitoring.
Rapid and Safe Detection TechnologyFeaturing an inductive coupler, the LSR-1 detects lightning strikes instantaneouslywithin less than 1 mswithout any direct electrical connection. This fast-response approach protects connected equipment and minimizes operational risks while delivering accurate strike data over a wide current range from 2 kA to 200 kA per impulse.
Durability for Extreme EnvironmentsHoused in a weatherproof, IP65-rated ABS enclosure, the LSR-1 is built to withstand UV exposure, shock, dust, and rain. Operating efficiently across temperatures from -40C to +85C, its an ideal choice for both indoor and outdoor installations on substations, communication towers, or any critical lightning protection site.
FAQs of LSR-1 Lightning Strike Recorder:
Q: How does the LSR-1 Lightning Strike Recorder count lightning strikes?
A: The LSR-1 uses advanced inductive coupler technology to sense lightning strikes as electrical impulses, which are then displayed on a mechanical 7-digit counter. This method provides a safe, isolated way to tally each strike without making a direct electrical connection to the lightning protection system.
Q: Where can the LSR-1 Lightning Strike Recorder be installed?
A: This device can be mounted either on a DIN rail or directly on a surface, making it suitable for a variety of installation sites such as substations, lightning protection systems (LPS), telecommunication towers, and other vulnerable infrastructure.
Q: What ensures the security of recorded strike data in the LSR-1?
A: The mechanical counter in the LSR-1 is non-resettable, preventing accidental or unauthorized resetting. This feature helps maintain secure, tamper-proof records of lightning strikes for reliable data analysis and compliance.
Q: When should I check or maintain the LSR-1 Lightning Strike Recorder?
A: The LSR-1 is designed for maintenance-free operation. Routine checks are only necessary to verify the device is securely mounted and the lithium battery remains functional. Battery replacement is simple and infrequent, thanks to efficient power management.
Q: What are the advantages of the LSR-1s IP65 and UV-resistance ratings?
A: IP65 and UV-resistant qualities mean the LSR-1 is protected against dust, strong jets of water, and sun exposure, making it durable for outdoor or harsh indoor environments. Its enclosure also ensures safety from weather-related damage, prolonging the operational life of the device.
Q: How accurate is the strike recording process with the LSR-1?
A: The LSR-1 provides a strike count accuracy of 5% per event, ensuring that recorded data closely reflects real strike occurrences. Its instantaneous response time of less than 1 millisecond helps capture every lightning event effectively.
Q: What benefits does the LSR-1 offer for lightning monitoring applications?
A: With compact sizing, weatherproof construction, instantaneous response, and secure, maintenance-free operation, the LSR-1 offers hassle-free, long-term monitoring of lightning activity. It aids in risk assessment, maintenance planning, and enhances the safety of protected infrastructure.
